What are the advantages of stopping over at Shenzhen?

If you are going to stop over at Hong Kong and then visit China, you can convert your money to Chinese RMB in Hong Kong, and then take a train ride of 35 minutes and  stop over at Shenzhen. In Shenzhen, foreigners can buy train tickets, air tickets......with RMB at the same price that ordinary Chinese pay. It will significantly reduce your China travel budget.

Is there a heavy traffic at Hong Kong-Shenzhen border?

Yes, during week-ends and holidays, about 150 thousand Hong Kong people go shopping in Shenzhen or stop over at Shenzhen before going to other parts of China. But there is a special passage in Lo Wu Immigration Building for foreigners which allows fast entry to Shenzhen.

Is Shenzhen worth visiting?

Shenzhen is a new city. If you are going to visit the true Chinese historic and natural scenaries, then skip Shenzhen. There is a big theme park "Splendid China" in Shenzhen which attracted a lot of Hong Kong people with miniatures of  Chinese historic and natural scenaries.  If you don't have time to visit the true scenaries, you may visit this theme park. There are demonstrations of anciant ceremonies in the this park and the admission fare is £¤70 for weekdays and £¤80 for Saturdays & Sundays.

¡¡

What is the budget of China Travel?

If you travel by train, it is quite cheap(see the homepage) .

In Shenzhen, cheap hotels are not allowed to accomodate foreigners because the government wants to garrantee the income of 3,4,5 star hotels which charges at least £¤200 for standard twin room. In other parts of China, maybe it's different.

A Chinese white collar clerk normally take a 'meal box' (about £¤8)as  lunch.  A big Mac at MacDonald's costs £¤15.
